This isn’t a polished business plan or a quick side hustle. It’s a farm built one pole, one cable, one row at a time — with my own hands, a lot of coffee, and the help of friends who know more than I do. In 2022, a lieutenant at work said I should grow hops on my land. He made it sound simple.
I started digging into it… and goodness, hops are complicated. Soil, trellising, disease, timing, processing — it’s a craft, not a crop you just plant and forget. But I was hooked. So I began. Slowly. Deliberately. Every decision — from choosing Centennial hops to setting poles 28 feet apart — came from research, trial, error, and the kindness of growers, brewers, and neighbors who shared what they knew. No shortcuts. No rush. Just steady, hands-on work.
The Massey Ferguson 2600 is my daily partner: tilling rows, clearing trails, hauling supplies. It’s not glamorous — it’s honest. And that’s the point. Hyggelig Hill Farms is about doing things the right way — sustainably, thoughtfully, with respect for the land and the people who drink what we grow. We’re still early. The hops are waiting to be planted, the harvest is ahead. But every piece is made by hand, with care, and with pride.
